Baby's Book of Winnie the Pooh
It's never too early to begin reading to your child. And we at Disney believe that it is never too early to introduce your infant son or daughter to the lovable, huggable Pooh and his friends, Tigger, Eeyore, Piglet, Rabbit, Kanga, and Roo. You'll meet them all in Baby's Book of Winnie the pooh. This lovely anthology is full of verses, stories, and activities that you and your child, at different ages and stages, can visit over and over again.
Let's begin with infants, from newborn to three months. The rhythms and rhymes in this book are pleasant to hear, and just the right length for little ears. Read some of them to your infant as you hold her close. She'll enjoy the sounds, patterns, and rhythms. As she grows, she'll learn to mimic those sounds and pick up the movement - touching toes, bouncing, and clapping. These playful games keep your child attentive, and help develop eye-hand coordination and the other small motor skills. And of course bring lots of giggly fun!
An activity you can enjoy with your six to nine month old is looking at the pictures and turning the pages together. Your child may only be seeing colours and shapes early on, but later will recognise what is happening in a picture and be able to point to specific objects when you ask. Book content begins to take on a little more meaning.
Your toddler (ages one to three) will enjoy revisiting these verses, and with confidence, demonstrate for you how much she has remembered, Your toddler will also enjoy talking about the pictures depicting Pooh trying to get Piglet to sleep, the whole group taking a bath, and Tigger jumping on the bed. Your child will no doubt relate to all these bedtime rituals and behaviors. They're so universal! And certainly they can serve as prompts for discussion. "Do you wear a nightcap to bed?" "What are your favourite pyjamas?" "What do you play with in the tub?" "What story shall we read tonight?"
With the "Find a Friend" section of this anthology, you can help your child develop visual awareness. Ask him to point to Owl, both on the left page and then on the right. Where is he? Where is Kanga? If your three year old is ready to learn some words, you can point, for example, to the picture of Pooh, and have your child "read" the name Pooh printed below character.
After enjoying the lively hums of "A to Zzzz" you may want to recite (or sing) the alphabet together. At different times, explore other beginning concepts together. Read and talk about numbers at one sitting; colours, shapes, or opposites at other times. As attention spans lengthen with age, your child will enjoy hearing you read aloud the stories about Pooh and his adventures with honey.
No Matter what age or what stage your child is at, Baby's Book of Winnie the Pooh has enough material for many hours, days, weeks, and years of pleasurable reading for you to share. Have fun together!
