Mr Worthy is friends with everyone. His customers say he's the best butcher in town, the children come to help after school, the cats, dogs and birds in the neighbourhood get daily meals, and his special friend is Belle, the beagle.

There's one person who is not Mr Worthy's friend the dog Catcher. The Dog Catcher is a miserable sort of man and he hates butcher. And he he's after all the dogs, most of which he has managed to catch at one time or another. All except Belle, and he's determined to get her.

One terrible day the Dog catcher comes very close to capturing Belle. But his effort are thwarted by the dogs, cats, the birds and the children in an exciting, amusing and fast moving string of events.
